Backtest Lab: a backtester that tries to talk you out of it
The simulation is deliberately pessimistic, because a backtest that flatters you is worse than none. Test a template or your own code, walk it forward through data it never saw, and download the strategy with the risk limits you tested built in.
Backtests and walk-forward runs: 2 on Solo Trader, 4 on Professional, 6 on Institutional, each pool refilled 48 hours after its last credit is used. Extra backtests and code exports are £10 each, excluding VAT. Your first backtest is free.

Eight templates (SMA and EMA crossovers, RSI reversion, Donchian breakout, momentum, MACD, Bollinger bands, buy and hold), or paste the strategy you run in Python, Pine Script, MQL or C#. The Lab reads your code, never runs it, and backtests the closest template with the settings it found.
Optimise on each in-sample window, run unchanged on the out-of-sample window that follows, and chain the results into one curve the strategy never had the chance to fit: walk-forward efficiency, profitable windows, parameter stability and a RED, YELLOW or GREEN rating.
Seven currency pairs on the ECB's reference rates and WTI and Brent on the US EIA's spot prices, at no extra cost; fifteen synthetic series, including index series calibrated to six major indices and gap-crash stress tests; or your own CSV.
A signal fills at the next bar's open; fees and slippage are charged on both sides; a stop that the price gaps past fills at the price that traded, not at the stop. A daily loss cap, a drawdown limit and a losing-streak breaker close the position and stop the run.
Every plan can download the tested strategy as Python, Pine Script or C# (a cTrader cBot), with a stop on every order and a kill switch for daily loss, drawdown and losing streaks built in. Run it on a demo account first.
QDo I need to write code?
No. The eight templates need only their numbers. If you do have code, paste it and the Lab reads it.
QWhich prices can I test on?
Real daily prices for seven FX pairs and WTI and Brent crude (one price a day, from the ECB and the US EIA), fifteen synthetic series, or your own CSV. A market-data vendor adds more once connected.
QDoes a good backtest mean the strategy will make money?
No. Simulated and past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results.
Seven AI agents read your research papers, strategy code, folders and trading videos, turn each idea into testable rules, test every variant on history it never saw, and record why the failures failed.
An AI market analyst, quant and news desk in one. It works the formula with your numbers, draws charts, reads your PDFs, CSVs and screenshots, and cites a dated source for every fact. No buy or sell calls.
Point TradingView or any bot's alerts at a webhook of your own. Aurelia Spes keeps the paper book with your stop, daily loss cap and drawdown kill switch, and compares the result with the backtest. Nothing goes to a broker.
Currencies, yields, crude oil and crypto, central-bank releases and world news on one screen, every figure with its source and how old it is. Ask Speak Financially about anything on it.
Paste a trading strategy or drop the whole project in. Kill switch, stops, leverage, market-abuse patterns and hard-coded credentials are checked against UK rules, with the fixes, the code that closes the gap and an evidence pack PDF.
